Default Stingray name

What was the offical year Chevrolet dropped the Stingray name plate? This would not just be taking the name off the car but droping it from all Ads and Brochures?

63-67 had the "Sting Ray" nameplate.
68 had no side emblems, though it was referred to as a "Stingray" in advertising.
69-76 had the "Stingray" side badge.
Early 77 had no side badge.
Later 77-79 had the cross-flag side badge.
80-81 had no side badge unless equipped with an L-82 engine.
82 had the "Cross-Fire" side badge.

Hopefully the mods will lock this before it turns into the usual "Stingray" brawl.

STINGRAY refers to the body design. The new smaller body w/ Stingray influences & chassis w/ I.R.S was introduced in 63.

It applies to the 2 STINGRAY body styles 63-67 & 68-77.
Stingray- BB hood on 65-66, tail on 63-67 coupes, wings extended from roof 68-77 Stingrays.63-67 & 68-77.

Since 63, for 15 years Corvette & Stingray were synonymous.

78- 25th anniversay of the Corvette- not Stingray. Many changes including bubble glass rear & new interior. They were already working on the C4 & McLellan had said the styling would be reeled in. 84 induction & 700R4 were in production in 81. So the focus was on the C4. CORVETTE says it all anyway.

No. You are all wrong!

Stingray means that cars with the lettering badge on them are superior in both worth/value and horsepower.
Duntov said "Corvettes with the badge are better & must be worth more."

So, being the good forum member I am, I went out and put them on my 80. It's faster & more desireable now!

Now all you need are some racing stripes and that will be good for about another 50 rwhp.

no no...you're thinking about skull & crossbone floor mats, chrome tipped exhaust & window tint. That's how you add 50HP.

btw...I need to clean out my garage. (that is actually a pretty good picture of my car).
