I have not seen this kind of thing before. In the pics you can see some extra bolt holes that seem to have been bored after market by a machine shop. Kind of rough looking, and seemingly self tapped.
There are a total of four per head, two per end of each head. You can see in the pic that they do not interfere with the Vortec manifold when it's bolted to the head, but whatever they hold down might be.
I had thought they might be for a different style manifold but I do not have a standard Gen1 SBC manifold to do a side by side comparison.
The heads are modified by an after market company, though they started as Vortec heads.
Some of the later model intakes use just the 8 end bolts to bolt down the intake manifold. I'm not sure how they get it to seal, but that's how they are. I don't think they'll cause you any problems.
