I've got a remanufactured L48 Quadrajet (7043203) on my '73 L82 4spd.
I'm trying to track down the correct carb (7043213) from a previous owner.
But in the meantime, what's the difference between them? I seem to have to pump the accelerator about 6 times to get it started the first time. Runs normal after that.
I doubt there is much difference between them, but it sounds like your choke isn't working correctly, or maybe float level not right. Next time before starting, pull the air cleaner and look down the throat and bump the gas, make sure it is getting a squirt the first time.
Very minor differences between the two carbs. Essentially the same carb. Both are 1973 4-speed carbs. Vac ports and locations are the same. Only real difference is the primary jetting and that is only one jet size.
The 1973 L-48, 4 speed, has 73" primary metering jets. The L-82 4 speed has 74 " jets . Both use the code DA Secondary Metering Rods. Both use 44 Primary Metering Rods.

The metering rods may be different and also the secondary accelorator cam but pretty much all Q-jets whether it was on a 305SBC or a 454BBC were all something ridicuous like 795cfm.
When I got my 78 with an L-82 it had a 17059216 on it. It idled like crap and I always had a problem with nozzle drip. The correct carb for it was a 17058211. The 216 was jetted much richer at idle/cruse and lean at WOT. I found a 17059211 (hard to find) and compared the difference. The big difference between the two carbs is the fact the 211 is an 800cfm carb and it had much larger idle air bypass holes to help with the mild cam at idle. The 216 with minor idle circuit modifications works just fine though on an L-82.
