Default Calling Nomad78SA. Side pipe question.

hey Nomad I saw the picture of your chasis with the Hooker side pipes on it and it looks great. I have a '71 that I want to run the same setup on. Where did you get them and how much? I see they were jet hot coated, did you have to send them off for that or does Hooker offer them that way? Also did you have any problems with the install? Thanks, your chasis looks awsome!

Wade,
Thanks for the compliments on my 78 project..
I ordered the sidepipe headers and sidepipes from Jet Hot Coating.
http://jet-hot.com/home.html
They are Hooker Super Competition 1 7/8 primaries tuned headers. Here is the invoice from jet hot.
H2224 Jet Hot Dir. 1 7/8",4" $615.00
F101 inside/out Sterling coating
H50735 Jet Hot Dir. Sidepipes $400.00
in/out Sterling coating
H21002 Hooker Reverse Flow SB $110.00
F01 out Sterling coating
Net order 1,125.00 + 60.00 freight/handling/insurance=$1,185
Minus Corvette forum discount = Total $1099.00 to my door with all hardware
Jet hot took the order over the phone and they ordered the headers from hooker. In fact I e-mailed them first and they sent me a nice package on all what they offered. I spoke with Todd TJB
If you prefer, they will send the headers to you first to check any fitting with your motor or if you want to clean up any welds and then you send them to be coated. I did have a ding in one sidepipe and some areas I was not satisfied with the finish and they paid postage to return them and corrected all the blemishes to my satisfaction.
No problems with install at all..
If you have any other questions just ask

Hey Neil,

Beautiful pic of your restore!! Are you doing that work yourself?
I also have a 78, and if I had guts and the equipment, I would love
to take the body off and work on a restoration!!

Thanks TFeld78,
Yes, I have done all the work myself with a few exceptions like sending the trailing arms out to Bairs for the rebuild. I ahve been messing with it for about 16 months now. I am also doing a 68 GTO which takes me away from the vette somewhat. I have really upgraded every aspect of this car so I have been in unchartered water in many ways verses disassembly, restoring and putting the part back on. This car should be a blast to drive and handle out of this world compared to with what I started with.
To the people on this forum,THANKS, because I could not of gotten this far without all their encouragement and expertize!!!!!
As many here know, a cutting disk exploded on me while cutting a weld hitting me in the neck putting a 6" gash in me, almost killing me. I can really say, I have a lot of blood in this project. To be absent from this world is to be in His presence!! Yes, Jesus Saves

Not to sound dumb but. Is there a cover that goes over the side pipes? I am getting ready to replace mine and the hooker set up is about the same price as a stock set up. Do I just store my original covers or will they fit inside?

Neil,

I remember the post awhile back where you posted the picture
of the scar. Glad that you came through that okay. Do you have any
pics of the GTO?

Tom

p.s. Another dumb question, when you put the headers and side pipes
on, uh, what happens with the catalytic converter??

TFeld,
The converter exsist no more!! A casualty of horsepower.......

Mick69,
Most people that run the Hooker sidepipes do not have any kind of cover on them. I am not sure but I have seen a thread or two where people have had some kind of cover. JCL, comes to mind seeing how he builds inserts for these 4" Hooker pipes

Thanks Rick,
soon as I get things going on the vette I may sell them to you

Here is a pic of the 68 GTO tha I am starting on also. It has a 400cu and a 4 speed..
