Default BB water pump.....now there's a pic

Hey everyone....I have finally got my motor together and now I notice that my water pump pulley doesn't align with my crank pulley. here's a pic of the WP and timing cover. I think the water pump is out a little too far. This is my first BB build, isn't the back of the WP suppose to be closer to the cover? No it's not a long pump.

there is no pic,but let me say this, are you using the same pulley as before or a new one?If it a new one is it a matched set? obviously you got the right waterpump right? This can only be so many things.

I just installed a new aluminum HV Stewart WP into my '71 BB few weeks ago. The pullies line up perfectly, I just took that shot :

I would say by looking at the pics that mine is out a lot further. Anybody else got any pics?

Just checked my aluminum Stewart water pump to aluminum timing cover gap on my 540, looks identical to yours. Just get pulley shims as needed from Summit and you'll be good to go. Be sure ALL your pulleys line up.

What I was afraid of was shimming the crank pulley and having the PS pump and alternator in too because of the potential issue with the pump. I should mock everything up. These pulleys are a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch off, thats why I think it might be the pump. Can someone measure from the block face surface to the back of the water pump for me just so I can eliminate the water pump issue. Thanks.
