http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/cftest/HOW MUCH HP DO YOU WANT ?how much do you have to spend?how much can you do? how about resell ?lots to think about .try the cross-fire forum
But If You Do It Will Help A Lot Because The Intake Ports On The Crossfire Intake Are Half The Size As The Ports On The Heads
You Will Also Have To Replace The Distribtor And Need A Kit To Make The Lock Up Converter Work (jegs)two Differnt Ones One Works Better Than The Other Depends What You Want Ask Why
If You Use The Electric Fuel Pump You Will Need A Bye Pass Regulator To Return The Fuel To The Tank Because The Pump Will Make Noise If You Dont Bye Pass It I Did This
I Did This Swap On A 84 And Loved It
Let Me Know If You Need Any Thing Else
in one way i wanna keep it all original and get it running as good as possible in stock form. then when i see some of the vettes here and at car shows i think crate motor!
Thanks guys for the input, i'm learning new stuff everyday.
Besides, the heads will not stand that much more HP in stock form anyway. I would work with what you have.
That's not true.
The heads are decent with the carb swap believe it or not. The 82's come with factory 9:1 compression too. The original cam sucks but with a slightly larger one like a Lunanti LK16 I think the specs are .442\.448 and a carb with a set of headers, it would surprise you.
It's a big decision to make because once you swap it will prpbably never be factory again. That may or may not hurt resale value. I modded the sh&# out of mine but I plan to keep it till I die so I'm not worried about selling it. If you find that you just have to have a carb I would reccomend pulling the crossfire, wrapping it in plastic and installing a crate motor. That way you can have your cake and eat it to, so to say
THE HEADS ARE GOOD 1.94 VALVES
YOU MIGHT CHECK YOUR HEADS BECAUSE MY CAR IS A 84 AND THE HEADS ON IT ARE THE SAME AS A 85 TPI CAR MIGHT BE THE SAME FOR YOUR 82 CORVETTE
IF YOU PLAN ON KEEPING THE CAR IT DOSENT MATTER WHAT OTHERS THINK BECAUSE YOU DONT WANT TO PULL UP TO A LIGHT AND GET YOUR AS BEAT BUY A LITTLE RICE BURNER OR A MUSTANG
DO YOU
ALL I DID WAS KEEP EVERY THING I TOOK OFF AND DONT CUT ANY WIRING JUST ROLL IT UP AND TUCK IT IN THE WHEEL WELL OR SOMETHING AND PULL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BULB OUT
you right on lots to think about. it's all original but man i'd like that motor to sound a little meaner and have a nice lope to it.
i'll check out the c/f forum. thanks again.
I think you oughta put the Cross-Fire in a box and put it in the corner of the garage. I owned an 82 TA and swapped in a modestly built 350, and the CF was nothing but problems. I realize there are things to do to the CF, but why? The intake has small ports. If you get it ported, you can get average sized ports. You can modify the TBI's to an extent. If you dump the whole CF setup, the whole small block chevy world is open to you. I don't see a whole lot of guys out there dying for a bone stock 82....I would say go for it.
