I am wanting to get my 1970 rear bumpers rechromed. Any tips on who to have do them and what cost might be would be welcomed.I live in central Illinois
Thanks in advance, Mike
I've used Custom Metal Finishing in IN with great luck (chromeplater1@yahoo.com). Also, someone here had recommended these folks in Ft Worth- Als Associates Inc 2813 Bryan Ave Fort Worth, TX 76104-6712 (817) 921-2679.
Librandi's Plating in Harrisburg Pa. did my original bumpers and I was very pleased with the quality and competitive price. Google for info.
Regards,
Alan
My advise is to search out something locally. Shipping can murder ya.
Insist on tripple plate. Ask to see some of their work. Expect to pay in the $200 range for each.
Got mine done (on the side) from a Chicago area plater. Had to wait three months, but worth the wait due to low price.

Hey Mako, I'm just across the water from you in Redondo. Who is the guy in Seattle that does chroming??
Not exactly Seattle, out by Bremerton Airport....

I have spoken with him (cant recall his name), havent had my stuff done yet... but says his tank is large enough to do a C3 front bumper. He came highly recommended by a fellow in Port Orchard (Lundy at Quality Restorations) who does Pebble Beach caliber work, '30's and '40's stuff. If HE uses him, I trust he is pretty good. Says he is about 3-4 weeks out, that was a few months ago.
I sent a rear pair off my customer's 67 to Knox Custom Chrome in Knoxville TN. At the time it was 6 weeks and the price was $250 each. This was summer 06. They turned out great and the guys really knew their stuff. They knew not to smooth out the bumpers where the two halves come together since it's not a mistake or damage but is actually the way they should be. Shipping was only $30 or $40 both ways, but we are just outside of Atlanta.
I needed my bumpers redone and was in no way buying repro. I came across a rechromer on e bay selling ORIGINAL triple chrome plated rear bumpers for 240 a pair and 165 for an original front bumper.. I was skeptical, but like everything else the car was just painted and i needed them asap. I took the chance and there apsolutly beautifull.. no flaws, no dull spots... it's on an exchange basis, and he DONT charge a core, he trustes you will send back your cores... they totally blow away the repro ones i see at shows and being original bumpers they fit! His user name is Chromabonito.. [/IMG]
