On my '72 350, the previous owner had replaced the stock distr. with an Accel that is, I believe, electronic (since he also did away with the voltage regulator). If I replace it with (another) HEI, what do I do with the vacuum advance on the distr., can I just plug it? And if I had to use it, where does it hook up to (on my Rochester Q-Jet)? I want to upgrade to a new one, one reason being I want to get the tach working again. Thanks
The 72 cars had an internal voltage regulator. You cannot run an alternator without one.
Get an HEI with a vacuum can on it and hook it up to the QJet in the factory location. Not exactly sure Ihave run Holleys for many years now. The HEI can be had with a tach drive unit. You could also convert your tach to an electronic one also.
Okay, I thought that this is where a voltage regulator used to be mounted. you can see 3 holes that have been filled with white something-or-other and I have at least one wire that deadends in that immediate area. [IMG][/IMG]
