LG4 Information?

LG4 Information?
I've got a 1980 with an LG4. Does anyone know if these had the good GM timing chain, or are they the plastic covered pieces of garbage?
The reason I ask is I had a 78 Camaro in high school. It had 80K on it, and the timing chain stripped. I learned at the time this was a common thing on the older 305s because of the crappy gear set that GM used (it was a light metal material that had a thick plastic coating...PLASTIC!). Anyway, that engine was an LG3, and the Vette's is an LG4. If anyone knows, let me know. Thanks all.
