Just put my motor and trans back in my 70. I have a muncie M-21
The shifter has been a little tough since I bought the car. It takes a decent amount of force to get it into 1st and does not shift easy into other gears. It takes a little strenght. The clutch is new on the car and pedal is adjusted fine. The Trans was rebuilt before I bought the car. I can drive the car fine but my right arm is getting a good work out. Any thought?
Marty, I had the same issues with the shifter in my 76. Very hard into
1st. I pulled the shifter out and rebuilt it with little success. I think the stock shifter set up in a C3 is worthless at best. I switched to Hurst Competition Plus and the improvement is unbelievable. Smooth and positive in all gears. Best $300 I spent! The car is a pleasure to drive now.
I have a buddy who worked at a chevy dealership in the early 70's he said they would take the cars off the trailor and install Hurst Shifters. He said the salesmen used to complain to them about the shifters all the time. I am trying to keep the car original but if all else fails I know they make an original corvette shifter for the Hurst
