When removing the body from my C3, how high do you have to lift it in order to roll the chassis out from under it? I have the engine out already. I am thinking 12-15 inches if I roll it forward in order to clear the rear frame area. If I roll it backward it seems to me I only need 6 inches?
Remember the fuel tank has to clear the rear panel if you push the frame backwards. I pulled my tank out before the lift so that I would not have to lift the body so high. With the fuel tank out of the way, I had to lift the body about 20 inches to clear everything. This is on a 78 Vette
Mine rolled out with the engine and trans still in. I put just steel wheels on the front (no tires) and no wheels on the back. I did need to remove the carb, and with a floor jack under the rear crossmember, it rolled right out. The body was up on 35 gallon steel drums with wood support, so however high they are.
I have even taken the tires and wheels off and set the car down on those cheap Harbor Freight dollies. You can gain an extra few inches if you need to.

I currently have the body off my 1980. I has stock P255/60 R15 tires. The front suspension has been rebuilt and the coil springs are original and unmodified. The metal rear leaf spring has been replaced with a composite spring.
There is a rubber "bumper" that sits on top of the fuel tank. The distance from the ground to the top of this rubber "bumper" is about 36 inches.
The distance from the ground to the top of the engine air cleaner (stock L48) is about 37 inches.
