Thanks, after reading up on it what little interest I had in OD Muncie gears has vanished. I was already concerned about the big step from 2nd to 3rd (really 4th). I plan on getting in touch with you in a few weeks about my Muncie that needs a do-over.

What's the point of your question? Seriously - if you're never doing this in your 'Vette - then sell it to someone who will because she's BORED.
I've probably had to replace my clutch more often than I might have if I babied it. I upgraded the 1/2 shafts and u-joints since I wasn't shifting at 2500 RPM. I can probably think of other things that I've broken over the years from driving my 'Vette hard, but what's the point? If you're not going to drive it hard, you might as well be driving a Prius!
I do not agree, there is a distinct difference between driving it hard and being abusive. BTW it won't get you going any faster when you floor your pedal in first from a standing start. Anyway I'm not going to debate this, because it is a futile exercise
Here is how I educate myself, when I put 500ft lbs through a Super T10 rated at 300ft/lbs and blow it on the first WOT pass I pretty much figure the tranny blew because it was only rated at 300ft/lbs so it doesn't surprise me.
So I look around and see the TKO rated at 650ft/lbs and now I don't blow transmissions anymore. Good thing they had a rating or I wouldn't have bought it and probably bought an "unrated" Muncie and blown that too, 'nuff said
And in the future I would appreciate if you would refrain from telling me how to educate myself about anything
It explains a little more about the difference between close ratio/wide ratio and has a rather interesting piece on how shock loads can affect an driveline with certain transmission combinations.
