If it has been run recently, it fires in less than one revolution. If it has not been run in a week or two, it has to crank a while. I have not figured the formula on pumping the throttle during starting. I usually do not because it has 2x4s (2 accelerator pumps)on a direct linkage. If it doesn't fire up quickly, I usually give it a shot of starting fluid. The engine has less than 200 miles on it and cranks OK. Timing should be OK at 10 degrees.
I would try 2 pumps and then crank it over without any extra pumping action. If the ignition is as good as you said it is, it should be running before you get your hand off the key.....

I would have to agree unless you are reluctant to pump because it floods easy.Could your carbs be leaking down? Why starting fluid instead of gasoline?
Starting fluid is handy in the aerosol. I just squirt it into the aircleaner element.
The fuel pressure may leak down but I doubt if the carb bowl does. I'll try the two pumps for the cases where it has sat. I do know that two pumps will flood it if it has run earlier in the day.
