Accel HEI Distributor
This has a mechanical tach drive but I believe that the crossgear needs replaced. What I need to know please is if the distributor needs to be pulled in order to do this and if I should buy a 'kit', not just the gear. It's on my '72 and was put in place of the stock unit. Thanks. I guess I could look at the stock unit but since they are not the same......I don't know the number of the HEI.

Usually, if the crossgear is chewed up, the drive gear on the distributor mainshaft is chewed up too. I'd want to pull the distributor and take a real good look. Putting a new crossgear on a bad mainshaft gear will just chew up your new gear.
