Engine Troubles-Need solutions
Hey guys. I learned alot from all of you before I purchased my 70-l46. I bought it unseen and had it trucked to me. I will probabaly be asking you guys for help on alot of things over the next few days so bear with me please. First thing is, when I turn the car off, it sputters for about 4-6 seconds and then shuts off. Solutions or ideas? Thanks to all who respond.

probably the timing is too far advanced or the idle is too high, or both. it could also be bad gas if it's been sitting a long time.

It's my understanding that "dieseling" is caused by a combination of a high idle, a rich carburetor setting, and carbon deposits on the pistons and valves. I'd start with the carburetor.
Please excuse my ignorance, but how could an incorrect timing setting cause "dieseling." When the key is turned off, isn’t the ignition turned off?
