Default dying door panels a different color

I got a good deal on some red door panels,
My interior is firethorn, which is a darker red color.
so I bought some Color Coat interior dye,
I sprayed it on door panels and got very poor results.
Please tell me the proper way to dye my door panels
Thank You

Take one of your existing interior pieces to a reputable auto paint supply store and get some S.E.M. dye mixed to match. I recommend getting the dye in liquid form (rather than cans); if you don't have spray equipment, buy one of the Preval sprayer kits and a couple of extra "gas" charged spray units. Clean the pieces you want to dye with detergent, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Some folks suggest using a "dye primer". I didn't and have not had any problem; use one if you like. Then spray a light, covering coat of dye on the parts. Let dry 20-30 minutes; then spray another covering coat. Let dry overnight. Put a coat of Nu-Vinyl or other polymer vinyl coating/protectant [never use a petroleum protectant like Armor-all on vinyl parts] on all the interior pieces and re-install. Done deal!

Rob,

Dye is best applied in multiple thin coats.... I used the can stuff from Mid America and dyed the old ugly black originals to a pretty nice and new looking saddle to match the rest of the interior... but like I said... thin light coats in multiple layers with 20 - 30 mins dry time in between... going from a red to a dark red it should be easy....take your time and it'll turn out nicely....

hth,

Sully
