Default Seat locks

This seems like a lame question but I replaced the seats in my '78 with, I think, '81's. One seat is locked upright the other unlocked and folds foward freely. How in the ^$#^%$# do these work? Can't find a lever or cam or secret password to make them operate.

Anyone have a photo or page from the AIM that will clear this up for me?

LOL.. been there. The locks are very small and built into the hinges....deep inside. They are very simple weights that activate with braking. Mine lock if I park on a hill. If your car is not level at the moment that is your problem. Of course rust and dirt can mess them up also...if that is the case attack the hinges with some sort of spray stuff. Otherwise, you will be looking at replacing the hinges....not serviceable

You won't be able to fix this problem. I have an 82 that has had this issue from day one. To unlock the seat try inserting a feeler gauge in between the section of the hinge that is locking. It works for me.
Good Luck

Ive had the same problem with my 81. The weights are steel molded in plastic. I removed the upper and lower hidge from the seat. The 2 parts connect with a pin and snap ring. The plastic part that holds the small wieght is shot on one side and was able to glue the weight in place on the other. Guess I'll be looking for new hidges. Don't know if gm can get new weights or not.

Default Hinge issues

New to this forum but impressed already. Thanks for the answers guys. Like the feeler gage idea. Let you know if it works for me.
