I got a new set of Spicer U-joints, they came with these little black plastic caps that hold the cups onto the body of the joint. When i go to install these, do I remove these little covers, or install with them? I can see the tripple seal in the U-joint cup itself, pressed in with a little copper holding. So, Do i need these, or should I remove them? they are very fragile, two have cracked allready

I think you need those. The Neapco Brute Force joints have similar seals, but red instead of black. I didn't break any of the Brute Force seals, even when I screwed up installing one joint and shattered the cap while trying to get it back out.

Were yours plastic or metal, 'cause these are plastic and very fragile, the seals are still in the joint. I am just having a hard time imagining them useing this cheaap plastic garbage on a $25 U-joint. ??? wtf. ug.

thanks,
Talked to Spicer tech support, what they said was that the cap is intended to be installed, it was a known problem all ready addressed, and but that when the joints were tested in mud, water -ect that the caps were not even on to U-joints, and spicers are suppose to be pretty good. So seeing that only 2 are cracked, i'll think i'll use them. thanks for the help,, Chris.

Red plastic. Hard stuff, and well-bonded to the metal cap.
