No need to take the tail shaft off. You only need to change the driven gear which comes out by removing one bolt, after you unscrew the cable. I went from 3.08 to 3.73 and you need to do a little arithmetic to change the number of teeth on the driven gear by the same percentage as 3.08 compared to 3.55. You need to increase the tooth count so you can slow down the speedometer. Zip Products sells the driven gears.
I am not sure what the drive gear tooth # is and there is something wrong there.I have rebuilt speedo , new cable and driven gear looks good but doesn't register mph on speedo.Thanx
mine is the next road race type car for 2008. Just started on it(because I switched cars last second due to sentimental reasons) and it needs to be complete by april.(good luck) .I am going to start a thread on it in a few so you guys can see the progress.
Well I finally managed to graduate and land myself a good job (aerodynamicist for a race team). The '77 hasn't received much if any attention in the last ~2 years but it will now.
1. Finish stripping and repainting interior. Finish rebuilding tilt/tele steering column, buy dash pads&seats and put it all back together.
2. Continue fiberglass work, replace DS door skin.
3. Pull drivetrain (engine/trans/diff/trailing arms) and start working on those.
A long way to go but finally there is a glimmer of hope! As they've been going for ~$35k I've been tempted to add a C6 to the stable but an extra $550/month (payment compared to current car) would go a long way on the restoration project.
i'm on the reassembly side of my Frame off, need to finish up my rocker channel, header panel, detail engine bay, finish up exhaust and get body back on chassis, all the hook ups, alignment and inspection in time for late April Car shows....time for me to step up the pace once the holidays arrive!
Dude that's easy. You doing the work in that hangar? I wanna help too.
Yup, Worked in the hanger tonight. Heat is so nice!
Got the power stereing stuff off. Now I just need to get the new stuff and bolt it up.. supposed to snow this weekend, good time to work.
Getting 454 rebuilt with new cam (at shop now.... custom cam arrived yesterday). Clean up and remount both seat tracks. Adjust doors/windows so they fit tighter. (may need some new weather stripping) {want to keep dry next summer } Already installed new strut rod bushing so will need a 4 wheel alignment. And of course turn the heat up in the shop and give her a good cleaning and wax job.
Just another road race type car. This shot was 4 weeks ago. The body is done now and going in the booth Sat. morning for it's first coats of primer. After a few bake cycles in the booth, the body will be put away and I will start the chassis. I'll post some pics of the body before and after it is primed. [IMG][/IMG]
Lots of work planned for this winter on my 1969 vert, install a complete wiring harness, including the missing fibre optics from front to rear, which includes replacing the console and trim panels.
The 2 bolt 454 comes out and a ZZ454 will replace it, along with Hooker side pipes and headers.
There are loads of other parts on the shelves that need to make it on the car as well, will they all make it on the car by spring, that is another question!
Good luck to us all!
I'm sure you'll enjoy the lift. Wish I had one. As a side issue, you could always move to Florida.
the lift will be great once I get it here. Im too cheap to pay the freight so Im waiting for a freind to free up his trailer and help me grab it.They only drop it in the street if they deliver.
It kills me to shelf the car for a couple months.its such a blast to run
Starting tomorrow...painting my custom 64 Riviera
Then onto the vette stuff
Install the AFR heads on the 396 small block
Ship out the front wheels to be widened.
Install the Van Steel coil over kit in the rear.
Lexan windows.
Finish the custom center console and door panels.
And finish the paint scheme...as I have finally finished collecting/making the right decals from the #4 Le Mans car.
Actually a light winter compared to the other years I have had.
My winter project was a new composite spring, offset trailing arms, HS u-joints and rear wheel bearings. But winter isn't here yet and I'm almost done with that, so now it looks like my winter project will be renewing the TR6 interior.
Since its sooo nice and warm in Wisconsin this winter. Only kidding My ride is hibernating til Spring. I quit smoking 8 weeks ago after smoking for over 27 years. It looks like my winter project is to lose some weight, or I won't get my fat a$$ in my ride in spring. Wifey says if I save enough money on not smoking I might be able to get another vette. Kind of good incentive don't you think?
..... did-that in late '06, but my house in Taxylvania STILL isn't sold yet, so I bet we didn't put 300 miles on the '82 this year:
if the economy doesn't pick-up and/or my house doesn't get-sold, it'll be driven even-less in '08.....
Once the house is sold, vortec heads, intake & carb (will ****-can the Cross-Fire ), cam, headers, and a THM350 (700-R4 will get same-fate as the CFI ):
anybody looking for a 3-bedroom/2.5-bath split-entry with a 4-car garage an hour from Pittsburgh?
Let's see. The things I can immediately think of that can be accomplished either in the basement or an unheated garage include:
Blast and paint halfshafts and diff cover.
Replace 1 yoke in diff.
Install new U-joints.
Re-assemble rear suspension with the rest of the VB&P Street & Slalom package.
Install new brake lines.
Run new fuel line and finish plumbing new fuel system.
Rebuild steering box and control valve.
Install clutch and pressure plate.
Replace both #4 body mount cages.
