Default whats the winter project?

For those of us in the North East , its time to put the cars on the shelf for the winter.( it sucks, but what can you do?)

On the positive side, it gives me ample time to do the minor things that I have put off during driving season.

I buying a 4 post lift for the garage next week( Greg Smith Equipment out of delaware) Hopefully this will make a few of the projects easier.

I plan on replacing the rear transmission seal.Investigate my oil pressure unit.

trouble shooting the headlight vacum system.

What projects are planned for your car?

I'm sure you'll enjoy the lift. Wish I had one. As a side issue, you could always move to Florida.

I'm gonna finish up my grills, re-do some wiring with custom harnesses, clean everything up with paint and looms, finish my fuel door project, and MAYBE install my TH200R4.

Bare minimum: Re-install gas tank, Fiberglass in front and rear bumper panels, replace body mounts, fiberglass in new hood scoop, final body prep for paint.
If time/money permits: Remove engine/prep engine bay for paint.
Remove wiring harnesses. Sand/Paint Engine, Frame. Install new fuel/brake lines.
I still have hope to have her in paint once spring starts.

Default Engine rebuild !

1968 Roadster, in upper Midwest--
I seldom work on the car over winter, but this winter is different!
As we speak the 427 is out and in the hands of a close friend / mechanic. It's the original engine and we rebuilt it 21 yrs ago. It had started smoking and getting weak, so decided to "freshen" it up.
Well that freshening has evolved into a complete rebuild with mild mods. Since this car has been very stock/original all it's life, I'm looking fwd to the gentle mod. Will retain as nearly 100% stock appearance as possible (I like that look anyway). But the engine is getting a new set of Edelbrock aluminum heads, a slightly more agressive cam, and 454 crank. Keeping stock intake an exhuast manifolds, but with 2-1/2" exhaust & Flowmaster mufflers. Not looking to build insane power, but it will certainly pull a bit harder than ever before.
Will install before Spring. Also hoping to attack vacuum system issues (headlights & wiper door), interior light switches, and a cpl other small items before Spring "rollout". April will be fun!

It gets inspected in January so it wont be lifted until after inspection. I'd like to pull the old A/C and convert it to latest. I think its R34? Change the trans filter & gasket. Fix my warped hood ( Im working on that now). Maybe just clean up the engine compartment.

I plan on installing a Hurst line lock and Dragvette halfshaft safety loops. I'm also going to change trans fluid and filter and change my coolant, including draining the block since I will be under there so much anyway.

Wow!!! Impressive list Pat. Are you going to be able to get it all done this winter? I just hope my winter is not as long as yours.

I hope to get my LS1 motor in mine. I already have installed the new cam. I have my 243 heads out there ready to go. I just need new springs and pushrods to finish the motor assembly. The next project would be fuel system. I have yet to buy a piece of it.

My winter has already started. A bunch of guys came over and took out tne motor and trans. I have no Idea how to put it back together so I guess I might as well rebuild it. Heads, pistons, cam, manifold... I want 350 hp!! New A/C unit, old one shot craps. Fix steering... then buy beer and have those guys come back and put it back together. I hope they make it through the winter..... I will need them in the spring.

No need to take the tail shaft off. You only need to change the driven gear which comes out by removing one bolt, after you unscrew the cable. I went from 3.08 to 3.73 and you need to do a little arithmetic to change the number of teeth on the driven gear by the same percentage as 3.08 compared to 3.55. You need to increase the tooth count so you can slow down the speedometer. Zip Products sells the driven gears.
