Default Power Window Help

Before I tackle my power windows I wanted some insight from the experts out there.. Here are my symptoms on my 78.

Driver’s side: Windows goes up and down fine at normal speed. The main problem is that it rattles anytime it’s not all the way up. Both the inner and outer seals are shot and the anti rattle cushions are worn quite a bit. I am suspecting this is my primary culprit. What other related parts should I inspect for wear? The window is also out of adjustment and makes shutting the door with the window all the way up tricky.

Passenger side: The only problem I have with the passenger side is that the window goes up and down “very” slow. It doesn’t rattle and the alignment looks good. What causes the slowness?

Thanks!

My driver side does the same and the problem is a broken bracket that secures the window motor. This may be your problem. Pull the door panel and I bet you'll see what the problem is. Do the same with the pax side. Good luck.

The seals and the anti rattle cushions are supposed to keep the window quiet when it is anywhere other than all the way up. They are easy to replace. You should also check the rubber pieces that slip onto the lock linkage arms. Those are rattle eliminators too. Corvette Central has good drawings of all this in their catalogue and probably on the website. As for your passenger side, dried up grease and dirt on the gear and in the regulator tracks could be the problem.

Yes, BK is most likely correct about the passenger window. Mine were like that also..I took them all apart including the motor and gear, removed the old thick/dirty grease and lubed them with fresh grease. They fly up and down now. I found some broken/missing guides and buttons when I took them apart so if you're going to get new bumpers you might want to wait until you have them apart so you make one order.

Watch out for the spring if you take it apart

The "slow" condition on the pass. window could be as simple as the switch contacts being dirty or the grounding not being "clean". I would try to assess/correct those things before I dug into the door. If switch and grounding are good, then it is likely 1) lack of lube on the working components, 2) damage to the joints or scissor mechanism, or 3) bad motor brushes.

Lots of good how to articles out there. I am attaching one for replacing the outer seal, that and the door glass anti rattle cushions arent too hard to replace. You can find complete rebuild kits at almost any corvette supplier, just price shop and make sure you are getting a quality kit.
Mine were so bad when I closed the door I thought the glass was going to break. Like new now.
