My 1976 AIM indicates that there is a short piece of rubber and then a pipe that goes down to the automatic transmission from the top of that fitting. It also indicates the M38 and M40 transmission options. Both are GM codes for 3 speed automatics. But I don't see the M38 listed in the Corvette Black Book. M40 is the Turbohydramatic.
Just a little note ; these come with 1 ,2 or 3 ports depending on your vacuum set up.
Question ;does anyone know where I cam get a hard copy AIM Thanks

Most of the Vette vendors sell them along with Ebay being a source. Be careful, though, as many of these manuals have been copied over and over and over again rendering many pages difficult to read. You might also try to find one at a Vette flea market as there you will be able to see what you are getting.
Another pic and angle...I can clearly see the line to tranny (rubber hose to metal)..but...if you notice the top of manifold vacuum port it is "capped off"...could this capped off port went to something else at one time and what?......Thanks,Pete
Looks to me like an after thought modification .on my 73 I have a 2 port, 1 port to auto tranny the other to my headlight vac system. Manual trannies don't have modulator valves so they don't use vacuum. These puppies aren't that costly (around $30.00 or less) so........
Hope this helps
Is that tube supposed to be hooked up to the rear top of the carb? On my 76 there is nothing there.Mine is automatic and has trans. and headlight vac.lines to a 2 port manifold tube.

Most 4 speed cars came with an intake manifold vacuum fitting that had only one port. You can install a a fitting that has an extra port which can then be used for a quick vacuum gauge hookup or an additional source of full vacuum (not ported) if needed for other purposes.

The side port went to the tranny & the top port should go to your headlight vac lines...

On my 76 the top port is the tran. and the side port is headlights.
The tran. line comes up in a pre bent angle with a small piece of tubing and slides over the top port.
