Default Engine Oil Viscosity

The original 1972 manual suggests using either 20W, 10W-30, 10W-40 and 20W-40 engine oil. Any suggestions for this day and age w/ the original engine?

+1 for Rotella

Rotella T is easy to find so is Chevron's(or is it Exxon's) Delo. Both are diesel engine oil. The 15w-40 may be pushing it a little in the cold months if the car is outside, but you won't go wrong using a diesel oil since it has added lubricants and detergents. These lubricants are now needed for the old flat tappet cammed engines since the modern car engine oil is lacking the lubricants.

If you're somehow concerned about using diesel oil you can get the additive that Comp Cams sells and add it to your choice of regular engine oil. The GM additive is supposedly no longer available but was going to come back or something. Obviously I am not too sure on it but you can always check. never hurts to ask.
