Default Fuse Boxes.. Anyone have pics??

What kind of fuses boxes do the 80-82 vettes have? Do they accept the spade fuses? Also, how different are the harnesses from the later year C3's to the earlier year C3's?

My plan is to buy a 1980 - 1982 fusebox (that is if they accept spade fuses) and convert it to the '73. I would like to do away with the bulb style fuses.

They switched to spade in '79 I think, and the fuse panel from a late C3 might have a lot more going in and out. Not sure what they look like or how they differ though.

Edit: Changed year from '78 to '79.

If they have more going in and out that would be great cuz there would be things that I would like to add to my electrical system. I think I am more concerned about if they mount the same. I don't know if anyone has done it, but I think it would be nice over the bulb style style fuses. IMHO the bulb fuses can be a pain to change.

If you are going to change the wiring then go with a "Painless Wiring" harness. They are the best and have never seen one fail.

I looked into this. The big differences are in wiper wiring and speedo/tach and center cluster wiring. Wrong plug on radio. It can be done. Not as bad a job as a 68-72 that have a wiper door.

What I plan to do is buy all brand new wiring harness for a 73 and add it to the fusebox of a 78-82. Do they have fuseboxes?

I take it that you have not done it? I don't see why it wouldn't work if I route everything as if it was a 73 box. To have a better idea, I'll need to get the fusebox and the wiring, but I don't think it would be too difficult. I am not really wanting to go aftermarket because I would like to mount it and make it look stock.

call painless and tell them what you're planning. They will have a solution. I have built many many show cars, all sold for well over 100k and I had them make all my harness'. They are awesome. All wires are coded and labeled. It is so easy. Tell them what car it is in and what extras you are adding and they will make it for you.

I did not do it because I have a wiper door and fiberoptics-neither of which you have to worry about on a '73-and it ended up that I found a nice '72 harness on Ebay. I started to do it using a dash harness from a '77 Bonneville. If I had had a complete 'Vette donor harness, I might have finished it but I kept coming up missing correct colored wires. At least from the Bonneville harness I had to swap the bulkhead panel as the plug in style changed as well, but that was a direct swap. I would not try to add a "new" fusebox to an "old" harness-look at the back of a fusebox (not just the bulkhead part) and you will understand why. I tried to get 'Lectric Limited to make me a harness like you describe, but they wouldn't even talk about it. If I was going to do it again, I would buy a '79 harness and change wire ends for the speedo/tach, wipers (will have to lengthen, not use all wires), center cluster, high beams (may have to lengthen or at least re-route), neutral safety switch (change plugs). If you have a donor harness then you already have the terminal covers and the bulkhead piece you need. You can buy male and female "type 56" terminals from better auto parts stores. Good luck with it. It can definitely be done, and I hope you succeed. Let us know how it comes out.

Just a note. 78 Vettes still used the glass littlefuses. 79 was first year for the plastic ones.
