I've always heard that one of the biggest differences is the additive packages that the companies put in the gas (clearners, etc.). I've always ran Bp and Marathon in my play cars, and have had good results. In my truck I run just about anything.
The only gas that I have noticed a big difference in is Shell. My cars have always hated it for some reason. Obviously it's a good gas and alot of people like it, but for some reason every time I try it (usually on trips) my cars run horrible. I would love to know why that occurs.
What about gasoline with Ethanol? Is it harmful to to our old "classic" engines or rubber fuel lines and components? A Hess Station nearby has stickers all over their pumps now saying their gas is now blended with 10% or less Ethanol. Not wanting to take a chance and cause some new problem I passed on it and went elsewhere. Can anybody please share info on whether Ethanol blended gas is ok or bad news for an old L-48, with an original Quadrajet? Thanks.
I don't think it will "hurt it" but you sure as heck don't want it in there. Ethanol is a junk fuel, I don't know why anyone would want that crap. The combustion isn't as good as gasoline, so you'll get worse gas mileage and less power. I "accidentally" put it in the 80 within the last week (the 10% stuff, didn't notice the sticker until after I had pumped, doh!), and when I started it up after sitting for a few days I got smoke out of the tail pipes - this is on a car that's had a valve job in the last 6 months too, it doesn't smoke, ever. Took longer to warm up and ran like crap. I'll never put that junk in there again.
