It's not under the dash.

It is a condenser looking thing with a short wire on it right next to your distributor on the driver side rear of the intake manifold.

I think it's gonna be on or near the distributor. A cylinder with a wire coming out of each end.

I've always kind of wondered if I should put one back on mine. My engine didn't have one when I got it.

I do, know that very well, but...

I have a pesky RFI problem that I'm having trouble isolating and a tach filter is about the only thing I have not tried.

Radio Frequency Interference.

It's a high pitched wine that can be heard through after market or amped stereo systems. It's when a component of the stereo system is picking up noise from either the alternator or distributor. Ground loops can cause a similar noise but it's not RFI. Mine even does it when the head unit is off, the amps are disconnected, and the terminals to the tweeters register a 0.00V on a DMM. It's puzzling to say the least and it's stumping everyone including me. Like I said, the tach filter is just about the only think I haver not tried.

If you know how to solder, you can get the components from radio shack and build your own tach filter, that is what I did and only cost about 5 bucks and 30 min. It works great too.
