Does anyone run a Jet stage 2 quadrajet?I would like to tune my carb to Lars tuning paper, but hate to take the top of carb off just to see what primary jets and rods I have to start with.

You have to take the top off the carb to check jet/rod sizes. The jet sizes in somebody else's carb won't tell you anything about yours since JET jets their carbs based on the carb number, and they use a lot of different carb number cores in their carbs.
I am also planning to try my hand at tuning my Quadrajet, but first I am planning to swap out my tired old L48 for a ZZ4 Crate motor.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what jets and rods I should start with if I bolt my Q-jet on the ZZ4? I have a stock 1980 L48. I want to be able to put my stock carb on the crate engine, get it started and running decent right off the bat so I can get the break-in period done. Then I'll go back and tune it according to Lars' procedures.
I'm using a Q-jet, I bought a 77 carb and modified the idle circuit so it runs a little better. I have FlowTech ceramic coated headers, they bolted right up no problem at all. Your Q-Jet should be just fine with the ZZ4, you can fool with it a little later on after you get everything else you encounter dialed in.

The number would indicate that it's a 1979 California truck carb, but my 1980 Rochester parts book does not show the 17059507 number as valid - it goes from 17059506 to 17059508 with no 507. It's possible that it's a service replacement carb for a '79 truck carb built after 1980. Henry has the later Rochester books and can check to see if that's the case if he sees this post.

17059507 is from a 79 chevy p/u truck (350?) with california emmisions, this # is not listed in the parts portion of the rochester "C" carburetor manual but it was a OEM carburetor in Calif.
