Default zz502 fit??

does the bb zz502 just drop into a 78 vette, or do you need to change engine mounting brackets on chassis, also is there anything in the engine bay that will foul the engine?, also I take it the th350 gearbox etc, will fit straight on??
also any other things to look out for with this change??

cheers

This one is in my 69 Coupe...Your biggest issue will be hood clearance...mine has a L88 aftermarket hood...(4 speed tranny..)
A 502 will fit in a 78...no problem..

You should have posted this on CCCUK Dave! Got a buddy thinking of doing the same thing. Wouldn't it be easier to get a stroker kit for your 350 or get a stroker crate engine?

That's a beautiful 502

Makes me wonder if I should scrap my 427 plan and go for the cubes

I will do that, not sure what to do just weighing up the options, one good think about the 502 is the level of power you can get from it must be higher than a 350 stroker??

Thanks !!
A complete ZZ502/502 (Carb to pan) is around $7,000...it also weighs less than a cast iron head 427...
I have 28,014 miles on the engine with no issues...

you may want to reconsider bolting that 502 to your present th350 tranny, if that is your plan. Depending on how you drive the tranny might not hold up very well.

Maybe someone here will comment on the acessory brackets and pulley requirements from someone who has been through the swap already. GM sells a full acessory mounting kit but it might not be the best way to accomplish the C3 sb to bb swap. Anybody been there - done that?

Rich,
That's good to know that you can get all of the pieces required for the swap. It looks soo tempting.

Dave, I have 427 manual (not quick enough), I am having a fresh stroker 496 built-up shortly, this will be costing me in the region of £7.5K+ all in for (if I'm lucky 550/580 hp) You can get your small block engine' stroked' with perhaps a 450/525 hp built-up in UK for perhaps a grand less than that (or even less from 'States) - no essential gearbox changes - or spring changes - or drive shaft changes - bolt straight in with perhaps a torque converter change? Remember it ain't HP that does the job but TORQUE!

that sounds like a beast your building there! nice

the going rate for a zz383(425bhp) long block, is about 5000$, =£2500 + tax/shipping comes out around £3500, just need a intake, carb and water pump, I just brought a rpm airgap and a holley 750 vac sec

so this does seem like, the cheapest way for more power

also the zz383 comes with a mild cam so they claim, so still room for improvement

cheers

dave
