Prep-sol?
I am in the process of cleaning my fiberglass body prior to paint after being Media Blasted. The container of Prep-sol stated not to be used on Fiberglass?? I looked up a produce that's called Interlux Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202 for boats prior to painting and was thinking of using it but can't find anybody that has. What are you guys using to prep your bare fiberglass of oil and silicone? What worries me is thinking that the prep-sol solvent will get absorbed into the bare fiberglass and cause problems with adhesion with the paint? Any info from anyone that has cleaned their bodies prior to painting would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks guys ( or girls )
Dario
If yes, use a wax/silicone remover of the same brand as the paint system you are using (ie : dupont paint use dupont wax/silicone remover) This will ensure that you don't have a compatability issue!
Wax/silicone remover must be applied wet and then with a clean cloth removed while wet. When the remover is wet the particulates are suspended in the fluid and removed while suspended. If allowed to dry before wiping the wax and silicone will reattach to the surface.
If not painting the car yourself let the painter/paint shop assume responsibility for the prep.
Any Prep-Sol I've used in the past has only been used as a new car solvent to remove glue or decal residue and the like. I've never used it as a surface cleaner to prep for paint.
I use the SPI waterborne cleaner, it works very well. What is also great about SPI is that the owner, Barry, personally answers all tech support questions and IMHO, their epoxy sealer is one of the best.
