Default 1968-72 Headlight shields?

Hi, I know there was a design change in the 1969 headlight shields. On one design the RH side had a curve notch corner like the LH one had. On the other design the RH side had a corner without any curve notch area. Does anyone know which design was the 1968 and early 1969 design. Thanks for any information you can supply. Tom

And when did early '69 change to late '69? VIN number, production date, etc.?

Ralph.

So there is not a physical difference I can look for on the car to tell? My car doesn't have the original sheilds to be able to tell them apart. My serial number suggests my Corvette was built March 1969

Both the early and late style shields used the same mounting holes. The difference in the shields is that the early shields were too long and at highway speed could interfere with the opening of the headlight doors. If you are not going to have your car NCRS or Bloomington judged you would be better off using the late style shields. Your car should have come from the factory with the early shields as the TSB was dated May 6 1969. The TSB number was 69-T-31

I thought that they changed the shield to cover up more of the headlamps to protect them. The early one's are a little smaller. Lou.

Your time/build code on the trim tag will get you closer to an actual date. It tells you on the date on the tag your Corvette passed the station on the assembly line where the tag was attached.

Thank you Easy Mike. Sorry for being such a newbie. I know where to find the trim tag, but what am I looking for on the tag that gives me the time and date? I am learning so much from the site...

The upper right hand corner of the Trim Tag will have a letter and two digit number (e.g. G20) which will correspond with month and day of production.

The 1968-69 Tech. Information Manual & Judging Guide from NCRS will provide a wealth of information if you're interested.

How dare you come here as a newbie?! Didn't you know you were supposed to be here 5 years ago?

I thought I was enrolled in the compression class. The one where every dumb question I ask, or every small project I start, I receive two-years of experience. I should be up to five years in very short order . Thanks guys for the benefit of your experience and knowledge of these beautiful automobiles.
