I bought poly mounts for my '80 last year but didn't install them yet. I read somewhere that you should apply silicone grease on the bolts when you install poly. Did you guys grease the bolts or put them in dry?
Gentlemen; I respectfully disagree. I have poly in all my suspension, but rubber will give our 30 yr old cars a little extra cushion. I think we need it, I know I do. Unless you are building a race car, then nevermind.
Went for a ride to the foothills for lunch. Too many rattles and squeaks for me. That and some seats come next for me.
There has been lots of debate between rubber and poly. But to be honest in the end the only debate will be with yourself in all honesty. Both products are good but the choice between the two is what you are looking for as an end result.
Poly. Should last longer but will also not give the benefit of a real cushion as the rubber will. It will give a firmer feel to the car since the body and frame are as close as you can get to one piece without it being mounted solid such as with previous years with aluminum discs. But still allow some movement between the body and chassis.
Rubber. GM went to this to give a more plush ride. And as others have said they may not last as long but come on think about it the originals were in there for what 30 years lol.
So in the end if you would like more of a performance feel than go with the Poly. If you would like more of a plush ride go with rubber. Since in the end how long they last really is not a concern as I do not feel that we will live long enough to worry about changing them out again lol. And to think about it why take away all of the fun we had doing it from future generations that end up with our cars lol.
Grease the heck out of the bushings anywhere they could bind or make contact with something (like the bolt).
As long as there isn't any movement, there shouldn't be any squeaking. I really hope no one's body mount bolts are rotating against the bushings.
Also antiseize the bolts.
, though I put a bit of blue threadlocker on the #4 bolts to make sure they didn't drop out.

It's personal taste. Poly is going to be a lot less harsh than the aluminum cushions that came in 68-72 cars.

My 77's body bushings looked like hell and were compressing before it was 15. When I finally pulled them out at 29 years, they were about 1/4" thick, cracked, and hard as rocks.
