Default OEM belt's

I may be getting way too **** on this subject. But....

I am about to install factory OEM correct fan / Alternator belts on my 71 car

Is there a correct way to have the writing / numbers facing?

Do they need to be instaled with the writing readable if you are standing at the side fender looking foward toward the front of car or turned the other way.

Thanks
David

I don't know if there is a "correct" orientation of the belts, but I find it difficult to believe Chevrolet cared which way they were installed on the assembly line as long as the right belt went in the right pulley. Considering the time element given to do these things simply getting them on as quickly as possible was the important thing.

The belts may have been lined up in a particular manner so the assemblyman may know which was which and that could make it easier for him to grab the correct belt in the correct order. I think you would have to either talk to someone who worked in engine assembly during those years or find some kind of factory manual used in the actual assembly of engines.

Do Top Flite or the NCRS judging manuals address this?

I thought I was getting too caught up in the details.

Your point about the assy. line worker makes sense.

Snake-Oyl probably has the answers to your question.

My 70 belts have a little white tag sewed to them. The tags are near where the belts buckle near the console. The tags are sewed on the "show" side. I thought it was kinda ugley and thought they should not show. I called Snake-Oyl and they said that nevertheless the white tags were on the show side.
