Default Electrical System Problem

Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a 1981. My problem is that my battery keeps going dead while the car sits. I thought the battery was just old so I replaced it. 3 Days after I replaced it, it too went dead. I'm not leaving any lights or other accy's on. One thing that I did notice, that may not be related, is that when driving the car and turning on the directional the volt meter needle moves with every click of the blinker. This happened with the old battery and the new one. The alternator seems to be fairly new so I'm not suspecting it as being bad yet. Any help with this situation would be appreciated.

Here, try this paper that Roger wrote, to help find draws on the battery.

Your clock (& the alarm system if you have) drain your battery.
Put battery switch and save the battery voltage for a month & more.

Check the light on the sun visor on passenger side. My 81 did the same thing and I noticed that the light was on a dark night...
Just a thought

Couldn't agree more. I had this problem for years with the battery going dead after a few weeks and never could trace it down. I finally installed a cut off switch and end of dead battery problems.

Try pulling the light delay module (assuming you have one) out of the fuse panel. Its about the size of a cigarette package with a few wires going to it. Do not disconnect the wires. Just pull the module out of the fuse panel and let it hang. that was my problem.
