Finally started the 396 small block today. Sounds wicked, especially with open sidepipes and that 244 @.050 HR cam. Just ran it for several minutes around 1500-3000 rpm to seat the rings, shut it down and put it away. I'll make some adjustments tomorrow. I think it'll be a good running motor.
I'll start at the top: 825 Mighty Demon mech sec, Weiand stealth airstrike dual plane, AFR 195 elimimators, Scorpion 1.6 roller rockers, Doug Herbert single pattern hr cam (.592 lift), Eagle forged crank, Eagle 6" forged "stroker" rods, SRP forged flat top pistons, 11:1 compression, 700r4, 3000 stall Vigilante lockup converter, 3:70 gears, Stewart mech water pump, Griffin radiator, Flexalite dual electric fans, Carter electric fuel pump, Accel 300+ ignition box/plug wires, HEI w/MSD module, Autolite 3923 race plugs, March underdrive pulleys, K&N air filter/lid, Hooker sidepipes w/3" core mufflers, Powermaster hi torque mini starter, Pioneer 6.25" SFI damper, RPW SFI flexplate, and for good measure a NOS super powershot N2O system (50-150hp). Too much info??

From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Glad to see you got it running and it will be a good runninig motor if you seat the rings properly. That is done by taking it up to about 4500RPM in second gear and letting your foot off the gas and let the motor slow the car down. Do this about 4 or 5 times and your done. If you don't do this you could end up with an oil burner

Thanks for the info. I haven't driven it yet. I thought 20-30 minutes at 1500-3000 rpm was good enough to seat the rings. When I do drive it I'll remember your advice.

Thats the break the cam in... Since you have a roller, that is not necessary.. Atleast you got, 20-30 minutes of excitement!

Soooo if the 20 minutes weren't beneficial, does that mean they were detrimental? I hope not. It was exciting though! No overheating, glowing headers, distributor in backwards, burned plug wires, etc.
What kind of power are you expecting. NA and N2O. This is for the Vette and you are going to run the 1/4 mile???
I expect approximately 500/500 crank power NA. I primarily race 1/8 mile since the tracks closest to my home are 1/8 mile. This time it IS the Vette. Although I race several times a year my Vette and my Jimmy are primarily drivers.

have to load-unload driveline ... can do on road or on dyno ... driveway is only a gamble. Suggest don't run it much until you can seat em right.
