The painless wiring fuse block and C5 hood hinges/ gas struts showed up yesterday. I should be able to start on these in the next day or so. Since I am too cheap to buy a pre-made wiring harness, I decided to adapt the '99 Camaro harness to suit my needs. (After all, I am an electronics technician in the Navy) I went with the painless 3 hot, 4 ignition block. This will give me plenty of circuits and fuses for the new motor.
I also had to over come the VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft System). I am sure you all have seen those resistor keys that GM has been using for several years now. Well there is a computer module that is tuned to that resistor. If it sees the correct resistance, it will send out a 5v 50Hz signal to the PCM allowing the fuel injectors to turn on.
So to satisfy this and still retain the anti-theft feature, I built a small signal generator from radio shack parts that can unplug and fit in your pocket. That way, if someone ever tries to steal the car it won't start.
With the new intake going over the radiator, I didn't have room for the front of the hood to drop down into the body. The C5's have a cool scissor type hinge that lifts the front up as it rotates forward. Perfect! Now I just have to get them to fit.

Your project is amazing! Very very awesome  . It's a good eye opener how simple some of the jobs we think are hard, compared to what your doing. Keep us updated.

Jeff-Way to go! When your all done we,ll have to line up our sharks at a car show. I've be too busy lately, between work, my sons wrestling and rebuilting my wifes Montero engine, leaving me zero time for my hobbys. Let me know when you want the tach. It will give an excuss to get down to Bremerton.

congrats man awesome conversion .... wish i was an electronics technician so my conversion would come along a lil easier if u could e-mail me i have some electrical questions to ask you .....

Jeff,
That is really cool. Thanks for the update on the project. I have a question about the airbox and its impact on the cooling system. Are you using a stock '70 radiator and core support? Do you think that the airbox will interfere with the flow of air to the radiator too much? Just curious.

Someone just forwarded this to me. This is exactly what I am thinking about doing, but with a 63 split window. Do you have any web pages that document the transition? My problem is that I'm electrically challanged: :cry
Re: LS1 conversion update. this time with pics (sb69coupe)
The radiator is a 27" four core replacement radiator. The only part blocked is the very center section. I am confident that with the dual electric fans that cooling will not be a problem. I am not running a front license plate so that opens up a lot of room for fresh air.
