Not too long ago there was a post with pictures of some floor mats that appeared to be rubber and were molded to fill nearly the entire floorboard where your feet go. They looked like they'd really protect a person’s new carpet! :D I'd really like to see those pictures again but I can't, for the life of me, find that thread!
They are called weatherboots. Eckler's and others have them. I have had these for 15 years and my original carpets are almost factory fresh. http://www.foxweatherboots.com/
Hey, that's them!
I think that is just what I need! I hate being paranoid about getting the new carpet dirty!
paul79, I was curious if the mold is a fairly tight fit against the floor. Would you say it is?
They fit perfectly as you can see. Excuse the dirt in the pic ;) . After the pics were taken I just took them out, hit them with soap and water and put them back in. With these units there is absolutely no wear on the carpets. I believe the newer versions are carpeted on the foot contact surface. I like these but the Wife says that there is no grip for her high-heels  . I highly recommend them. My 22-year-old carpets are about perfect aside from a heater core leak green stain on the passenger side :( . P.S., note carpet protection at gas pedal, brake pedal and left foot areas.
I had a set of these in my '84 and they were great.
I've considered getting a set for my '71 but I can't see how the dimmer switch would work. How have you overcome that issue?
On the other hand it might stop my flashing of oncoming cars everytime I hit the clutch!
