I get severe flooding out the top of my QJet when trying to start. Haven't been able to start it since yesterday. Haven't done a thing to the car between then and now.
It has always been hard to start without manually holding the choke open (with the rod disconnected, reconnecting it after the engine starts), but today it just would NOT start at all regardless of what I did.
Mostly stock '73 (mechanically) with a Weiand 8000 manifold, stock Q-Jet.
I would overhaul it, but it's been ages since I've fiddled with Rochester/Carter carbs.
Is there some kind of quick fix I can band-aid the problem with until I get a free weekend?
EDIT:
I just went ahead and bought a new QJet from my FLAPS.
Though I could always return it if a simple solution presents itself before the order gets in (the 14th).
So the above still stands. Any suggestions for a quick fix that will hold me over until I can replace the carb?
Here's something that may work. Kind of a Bubba fix. Clamp off the fuel hose down at the fuel pump rubber line. Block the choke open with a screwdriver handle that will not fall into the throttle plates. Hold the pedal all the way down and crank it. When it starts it will run for a little while till the carb bowl runs out of gas. Then unclamp the fuel hose and start it again, this may dislodge a piece of debris stuck in the needle and seat. It won't help if the float has sunk (soaked up gas and will not float).

This is not new to Q jets, alot of times the floats get saturated from fuel immersion, take the top of the carb off remove floats, get a replacement set and let the old ones dry out until the next time if it happens again.Since I purchased my 79 new I have had this problem twice hope this is helpfiul.Later Geno
