I have a 9 leaf, 2 1/2" rear spring in my '76. I tried to install 8" spring bolts to bring the back end down to stock height. The 6" bolts are cocked to the rear of the car so much that the bolt head won't fit up thru the hole in the mount on the spindle. The spring looks like it has shifted or twisted almost 1/2" to the rear. The center spring mount and diff. mount appear to be OK. Any ideas?
Does the whole spring look twisted or just the bottom leaf? When the the trailing arm is unsupported, as it pivots down the spring mount bolt hole does move forward slightly. I jack up the trailing arm a little bit which does help the alignment of the spring cup and trailing arm cup so the bolt has a straighter shot going through.
Regards,
Alan

It doesn't really look twisted, it's more misaligned. If you drop a plumb bob thru the center of the trailing arm hole, it misses the center of the spring hole by 1/4 to 1/2". I'll try to jack up the rear of the trailing arm before I jack up the spring. I did notice when the car was on the ground, the spring bolts were both at a slight angle.
