I am really getting tired of having to replace this thing every year even though I don't have to pay for them any more.
I have a guy that told me he can fix it forever by doing some machining and installing a stainless steel insert with O-rings. Has anybody heard of this?
many dont come balanced out of the box. if you crank the engine with the adjustment too far to one end, the seals are blown the first second and leak from then on. take the new/rebuilt unit and turn the adjustment in and out to find about the center; then follow book procedure
My new PS control valve has a slow leak also. The leak developed immediately as soon as I pressurized the PS system.
I bought it from a corvette vendor. At that time, two or three years ago, this same problem was being reported. The vendor said they were experiencing problems and to send it back if it leaked. However, since several years have passed I doubt they would be agreeable. I think it is a remanufactured valve. At that time new GM valves were available but they were priced at about $500 I think.
Over greasing can cause problems with seals. Don't get carried away. I guy who rebuilds these things for a living advised me to grease it only with the engine running and just a squirt or two. I followed his advise and my last one has been trouble free for 8 years.
