Default New to the site... First Question

Hey Everybody,
I'm new here and I'm starting to fix up my '77 more and more. I'm just working on detail aspects right now since I'm not around it too much. All my emblems are faded or the paint on them is coming off. I was wondering what the best way to recondition them is. I'm not sure how they are attached to the body, how to get them off, or what to use to clean up the chrome and repaint them. I'd really appreciate some suggestions.

Welcome!

The front and two side emblems have adhesive and there is a chance of taking the paint off with the emblem. The back one has two acorn nuts on the gas filler door and should come off easy.

As for paint I used Testors model paint, and a lot of time.

...or do like I did. I bought new ones and then turned around and sold my used ones on ebay for more than I paid for the new ones. Well, I was kind of nice and threw in the postage :D :D :D

Welcome. Cruise and enjoy. Remember: Sharks Drivers Wave!!! :seeya :seeya :seeya
First Adivce: buy the Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) for your year. Order a reprint Owner's Manual if you don't have the original. When they arrive, sit down and read through them.

Hey Hokie!

I graduated from VA Tech in May in Environmental/Civil Engineering! I was the guy you probably saw with the '75 Orange Vette. (See Signature) It's too bad you didn't have your Vette at Tech when I was there because that place was overrun with rice.

To answer you question: I have a steady hand, so, I think I would find a way to paint my emblems because they're expensive! Find some nice acrylic paint at a hobby store and a nice brush, and go at it! I would suggest cleaning the chrome with Simple Green, the repainted areas will help to bring out its color... As for the side emblems... Well, I'd try cleaning them with Simple Green while they are attached to the Vette because inevitably when they come off, so will your paint.

Cheers,

Stephen

Hey Stephen,
I do remember seeing your Vette last year. It made me jealous because I wanted to have mine down here so bad. I bought a truck to bring to school, because I didn't want to put the miles on the vette from NJ. And if you thought last year was bad for rice infestation. This year is worse. Everywhere I look there are little Hondas racing around with tips so big I could fit inside them. That's why I really wish I could bring down my American muscle and put them all to shame. Thanks for the advice about the emblems. Simple Green just happens to be one of my favorites. It works great. I was thinking about taking the emblems off, but like you said, I don't want any paint to come off with them. So if I can manage to clean them up good enough and just really take my time repainting them while they are still on I'd rather do that. Thanks for the suggestions.

Vaal sez Hi.
The side trim came off fairly easily with a judicious amount of prying and lighter fluid to dissolve the glue. Didn't screw up the paint but I wouldn't have tried it if I wasn't going to repaint.

Paso,
I'll put my info in. I just need to go home to the vette and get all the data first. But my next break from school will be Christmas. So I'll try and do it around then.
