I have 2-4" play in the steering wheel, I just changed the rag joint it helped alittle but the plays still there, the car has had all the steering lickage replaced before i bought the car, i'm thinking it's in the box, is there any tricks to adjusting it

If the play is in the box you may be able to adjust the lash but you probably have play in several areas of the box.

Jack up the front of the car, have someone turn the wheels and cneter them in travel They should be pointing straight and the wheel spoke should be at 6 o clock. Then while you look at the input below the rag, have them turn the wheel. As the input turns, on center, the pitman arm should be turning. It is important to do this on center not off center. Then if you want to try and adjust it, bring it back to center and loosen the lash screw nut. Turn the lash screw in until you feel a little resistance and tighen it there.
I'm not a big fan of doing it this way but many times guys are not going to remove the box to bench set it with a 0-30 in/lb dial wrench. That is the best way to set/check them.

I'll pm you a link to steering boxes I wrote that will help you.
