Default How to redo rocker panels

Well I like the look of 77 rocker panels, but I never liked 81 rocker panels. I purchased 80 rocker panels because they showed some alluminum. So here's what I did

Pic of how it looked

I stripped all the black with paint stripper, then cleaned with steel wool

Primed and painted with

Polished with Mothers Alluminum polish

What do you think.

Those look fantastic. I'll be doing the same thing this spring.

Well, I think you did a nice job. I personally like the rocker mouldings as they were in your first picture better. I think it is because the small amount of aluminum showing is more in balance with the Corvette body style that doesn't exhibit chrome bumpers. Your refinished panels certainly stand out, but without front and rear chrome to balance it, I think yours eyes focus to much on the panels and not the car as a whole.

Huge improvement, they look great, and combined with the mirror's tops they really compliment the car.

I was thinking the same thing, but I want to put sidepipes on and I think this will compliment the pipes. Here's a pic of my Camaro many moons ago. The alluminum strip helped the sidepipes. I always wanted that molding to be wider. I don't like the window moldings alluminum on the vette.

You did a very nice job of converting them. However, I think they were more "bad-a$$" with just the chromed strip. You still have a great looking car.

I think it really depends on what the color of the car is. In your case I think the black window moldings are the way to go on a black car, silver would not look good on it unless it was a chrome bumper car. On my Silver car I stripped all of the black paint off the window trim and polished it with Mothers and it looks great. I think the polished aluminum looks better on a Silver car than the black does and helps to accent the color of My car and My ceramic coated sidepipes.
