on my 81 the wipers work fine on all speeds except when i put it on to slow using the dial to adjust personal intermittent. the wipers then stutter. they move a little bit then they stop , then they go . then they stop and so on .they go ok when i turn the dial to fastest setting with the dial but if i turn the dial down to slow intermittent or even medium thats when they dont work properly. actually the lower i turn down the wiper speed the more of a stutter they have?
The last one I fixed did this. I had to change one of the transistors on the wiper controller, but, there could many reasons for these symptoms.
The easyiest way to check the wiper controller is put it in another 80-82 corvette where the wipers are working. you can check the wiper switch speed control with a ohm meter.
1-remove the wiper fuse.
2-disconnect the wiper controller
3-measure the resistance between the brown and white/black wires on the wire harness
4-this resistance should vary evenly with the position of the speed adjustment.
5-measure the 2 wires resistance to ground. Should be infinite.
If I remember right. I think there is a resitor or diode in the black cover of the wiper motor. I know some guys replaced that and their intermittant wipers worked fine.
