Default Have a problem, please read...

It's sometime now that before the engine fully warms up and cruising at low speed with the engine not yet at full temperature, it runs at 6 (or maybe 7) cil...then, after running at over 4.000 rpms for sometime the engine 'clears up' and the full potential goes back where it should be: a blast!.

As you know i've been privated of my driving licence for a month so i left the car in the garage, at the cold, for 30 days.
Y'day, first day without rain, i've went out with the vette, left the engine warm up and went for a ride on the motorway...the malfunction didnt go away.

It runned with 6 cil for 50 miles, nothing to do, it didnt clear up.

I know the car is running slightly rich, specially at downtown rpms regimes, but over 4.000rpms is runs smooth and thunderous, until y'day...I've tried again today: same damn thing!

It didnt 'clear' at all...

Why?

Could it be a failed lifter or two? Maybe valve train issues. Pull the valve covers and have a look for anything out of place like broken springs or bent rods.

Could be any number of things. I would start by checking to see if your getting spark to all the plugs. Depending on what you discover, you may want to pull your plugs for clues as to what is going on.

DB, i dont think it's a drivetrain iussue, nor a lifter...there aren't any strange noices coming from that area at all and if there was something broken under the valve cover i'd have noticed it...instead, i believe (...and hope) it's an electrical malfunction...i think one or two plugs dont get spark for some reason, maybe distributor, i will have to check on monday.

Sounds like all you did was park the car was running fine before that, don't see how anything went wrong with valvetrain, plug wires just sitting there parked. check the dist. maybe some moisture in your fuel tank fuel filter.

A possible spark plug change to a warmer plug {IF} your running a cold plug. I say this because you mentioned it will clear up by itself after driving a period of time. Also the issue of not clearing up after 50 miles the last time would suggest the plug is extremely fouled and will not burn off the last time around.

Could be wrong, but I dont agree with the other suggestions unless the plugs are not fouled.

It could be your crankshaft broken in half or false brinnelling in the bearings from all the cars driving by.... Really though, if you ran it rich, like the other guy said check your plugs. They could have fouled.

...All the 8 plugs were incredibly in bad shape, 3 of them were already half consumed ...actually these plugs have already done a good job, infact these are the ones the builder sent with his engines...anyway it's clear the engine runs slightly rich and driving in the traffic or in heavy trafficked roads makes things more difficult...

I guess I assumed all of that was straight and checked with as well as this car seems to be maintained and worked on.

Next time I'll start simpler.

Why didn't you, at the very least, do a little diagnostic work before posting the question?
