Default Headlights won't open by switch

I finally got to working on the headlight assemblies. I put all new bushings, pins, springs and relays. THEY WORK!!!!!! Except....... when I pull down the bypass switch under dash, they open and close like they should. If the light switch is on when I close the bypass, they stay on and up. When headlight switch is pushed in/off, they close like they should. The problem I can't figure out is when I pull the headlight switch on, the lights go on, but they won't pop up. I can get them up with the bypass, but not with the headlight switch. It is a new switch, by the way. Any suggestions where to look??

CTRAIN,
Is it possible that you have the 2 small vacuum hoses that go to the light switch reversed? I believe the AIM shows them one way and the chassis service manual another. I believe the hose with the blue stripe goes on the FRONT nipple on the switch. Worth a try?

Ummmm...I was wondering about that. I did notice that different diagrams show different positions. Worth a try. Thanks. If that doesn't work, any other ideas????

Default Try this.

Charlie , The hoses on the lights / wipers are a challange to say the least.

I just completed a complete dash re work and have some notes / diagrams handy.

From the " T " under the dash the light switch hose attaches to the nipple closest to the driver or interior.

Then a hose with a blue stripe goes from the other nipple to the lower attachment point on the overide switch or closest to the pull handle.

Then a hose from the upper overide attacment point goes back out the fire wall and then to the " T " at the front of the car.

One way to test if you have them reversed w/o tearing the dash back out would be to go under the dash and switch the hose from the "T" and the lower port on the overide. Since they are easier to get to.

May need to use some long hoses with in line connectors for the test only.

Also if the dash panel is installed it is tight where the hoses bend into the switch, make sure it didn't kink a hose or pull it part way off the tube on the switch

CTRAIN,
Doesn't it make you feel really good when they work? Now you can go on to some other mystery.

I'd highly suggest getting a vacuum hose diagram from Dr. Rebuild. And, if you don't already have it, also get the electrical wiring diagram that he sells...

Default vacuum diagram

Does ANY ONE have an accurate vacuum hose routing diagram for headlights and heater/ac including an accurate parts list for a 1978 I ordered one it came as paper stapled together and looks like all pictorials are for earlier vettes no good to me. I followed what was there to a tee and trouble shot all possibilities still no headlight or consistant heater/ac vacuum control. Getting very frustrated
