Can someone verify that this rear is a 4:11 from a 70 vette as per his description. I was loking at my numbers book yesterday and could not make heads or tails of what I saw.
The 1970 unit will need a complete rebuild. It is probably a 4.11. The 1978 unit has a $99 rebuild kit installed. Who knows if it is properly set up because the seller is lying. As you know there is no 4.11 available for 1978. It will more than likely need a set of clutches and the 78 sideyokes were known to be soft and wear quickly. The last year for a factory 4.11 was 1974. If you buy either unit make sure you get the caps and bolts for the side yokes. They are expensive. And figure a complete rebuild.
I agree with 63mako, be very careful.
The housing have a cast date on the LH side, the stamping for a 70 would be 3 letters, only year with 3.
Can't tell from the pictures what type of clutches on pictured.
There are several areas that need attention to make a stock unit better. Those pictured are stone stock units.
The yoke caps are about $75 a set now maybe $100. dealers charge even more.
