I just got my control valve rebuild kit. For some reason, the kit does not include the 1 gasket that the valve uses. I can't find one anywhere. Should I use RTV sealer where the gasket should be? The valve came apart easy, and seems straight-forward to put back together. Any other tips?
Billsfan It has been awhile since I overhauled mine which gasket are you refering to? Do you mean the rubber boot that goes over the rod that sticks out?

I figured it out. It's called a gasket, but it's metal. It fits over the annulus spacer between the two main sections. Bubba had rebuilt it, and there was red RTV everywhere. I rebuilt it without any gasket cement. If it still leaks, time for a new one!
Rebuilding my 81 valve now. Is it me or does the rebuild instructions and my 81 manual miss showing the large washer installed before the annulus seal is installed? If I have it right, annulus spacer, then large washer, then seal (lip up), then spring retainer then spring etc.
Correct?
When you get your valve rebuilt, don't over grease it. A few shots is sufficient. A rebuilder of these told me a long time ago that that is why most leaks start as to much grease will move seals around. He also said to have the engine running when greasing it.
