a few months ago I purchased a set of Patriot 70" side pipes for my 72 dart. I have them on the dart now, but looking at all the cars with side pipes here, I want to add them to my 75. I was looking at summit and found a set that is 46" but has to have the hooker side mount headers. I am going to leave the rest of the exhaust alone until I add my 412 when I am going to add hooker regular exit headers. so question is, if I leave the exhaust manifolds, and short amount of pipe, will 70" side pipes fit? thanks all
I can't exactly answer you question, but i can tell how I did my pipes with the stock manifolds on my '81.
The stock manifolds end in a flange where the normal exhauxt system bolts up. We torched off the stock exhaust right after it bolts to the manifold flange. We then bent a length of pipe to reach from the side pipe up to the remaining piece of stock exhaust still attached to the manifold flange. Then we unbolted the remaining stock exhaust at the manifold flange, welded it to the new pipe we bent, and rebolted the entire piece back onto the flange. No need to remove the manifolds, no clearence issues with other parts.
Most side pipes I see for sale for vettes are the 60". I believe the 70" will be too long between the front and back wheels![/QUOTE]
70" will be WAY too long, the shielded patriot part
number is H1060 and i believe the hooker clones
are the 58" pipes. i cant remember the part number off hand.
I had to cut 3" from my Thrush pipes to get them to fit but not before I installed both of them and realized I couldn't turn steering wheel...don't know why my neighbors thought that was so funny
