Need a replacement gas tank to fit my 1971 roadster. When checking specs and models a tank for the LT-1 is listed differently(GM33F). From what I can gather, this tank has no return line. Are there any other differences and is there an advantage or disadvantage to using this tank? Would like to get it right the first time. Who manufactures the best quality tanks and where are they available? Any info is appreciated.
Check out Quanta Products in Maryland. I think their web site is "gastanks.com". They have the correct tanks with the original manufacturer's stamp. I bought mine there along with all of the tank accessories and they were all exact reproductions.

The capacity is related to the filler neck. 68-9 I believe use a filler that is flush with the top of the tank allowing you to completely fill it. 70-74 use a longer neck that forces air space at the top of the tank. Tank itself is the same dimensionally.

u got me baffled, i fill my tank 1/2way up the filler neck which leaves no air bubbles which gets me 17gallons just like the original tank, i can't see 7gallons of air bubbles

How do you know it is just 17 gallons? If you look at a 68-69 (vented)neck that bolts on it extends down into the top of the tank only a little bit. If you look at a 70-74 (nonvented) neck it goes in a few inches. The tank is physically the same size- and also with C2s as well I believe. The real differences in all of these tanks is how many return and vent ports (and check valve brackets) are included.

i know it's 17 cuz i poured 1gallon of gas into the tank n then drove 1/2 a mile to the gas station n proceded to put 16 more gallons to the top of the neck!

So could one of you tank guru's answer the original question.
To my knowledge there are no dimensional differences in tanks 68-74 (maybe C2 too?). If you don't use return and vent ports any will work. Quanta gets bantered about a lot, they have a good reputation.
