not really sure what you're talking about when you say "software". there really isn't any software to speak of. what little the computer controls is changed by plugging in a different chipset. as far as cable, i'm sure it's out there if you look enough but this computer is so old, there's not really a great deal of stuff commonly available.

There is only one diagnostic tool that I am aware of for the 82. The may be others but I am not sure what they may be. Here's what I have that is listed on the box. A friend of mine bought one of these in the past for cheap $50 on E-bay.

Services All 1981-1987 C3/P4 computerized Engine Controls
GM Set 3287
The only way to change the software on this year is to change the chip. Hypertech had two or three versions in addition to changing the thermostat to 160 degrees.
